lol would I be a fan of hockey? I feel like I would have gravitated to the sport eventually but I'd probably be a fan of another team, that said if the Stars didn't move Bettman already promised Dallas a team in the next expansion so I think we would still have had a team
I also recognized your knowledge of the game and history as well, which impresses me, cuz Hockey still is not and was not back 30 - 40 yrs ago a star sport in the southern US! It has picked up with the Stars move to Dallas, BUT if the Stars were still in Minny would you be such a fan ?? not sure! you love your hometown sports, which is natural! and normal but you learn about it your not just a couch potato fan !
That is nto what I said at all, I stated that you are relying on other people written opinions or op-ed pcs because you were not there during the 70's and 80's to form your own opinions or listen to varied accounts of the then current views of the game and players involved
PS before Islanders won 4, the Canadians won 4 > a dominant team as has ever been > stacked with talent ! It used to be whispered that the good French players had to end up in Montreal, and Lemieux was the first real French superstar to NOT play in Montreal !!
anyway this is just my opinion as well and you can disagree or agree to some level too! I respect your opinion; even though at times I have to remind myself you live in Texas not in Canada as you have good knowledge of the game! kudos to you for that
this would be a great discussion to have .. BUT you are relying on other people's opinions not on your own, cuz lets face it you were not around for this! during this time many people got turned off of Hockey cuz the skill level was sparse or really good and many teams were lucky to have 2 good lines and one decent goalie !! some 4th liners were just brutes: in it for the muscle only not skill!
OK, here is my point: in the 80's you had dynasties > Islanders and Oilers, not enough talent spread around so that allowed a team to dominate when they got a great mix!! not since the 80's has anyone or will anyone ever again win 4 in a row or 4 out of 6 yrs!! Now Chicago has been great winnning 3 over 6 yrs is about as dominate as you will ever see!! now the salary cap has helped there but in 80's there was just not enough talent to go round !!
from about 67 to 79 the Nhl grew by leaps and bounds, some good, but not enough good players to fill all the rosters, so bad hockey started in the 80's, grabbing and stickwork cuz too many were not talented enough to play !
