News: Origin Access

EA has released a new subscription service through their Origin Store called Origin Access. This is a service already offered on Xbox. For $4.99 a month Origin Access offers you “the ultimate marathon gaming session,” gives you actual access to fifteen (15) games currently with more games added to the service “over time.” EA will also automatically give you game trials (alpha or beta or both) of games before their final release and they promise to carry over the progress of your tested game onto full release if you purchase the product later on. Additionally to all that you will also receive 10% discount on entire Origin store purchases that will also stack on top of any sales and promotions.

Here is a list of 15 playable titles:

  • Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe
  • Dragon Age Inquisition Digital Deluxe
  • Battlefield Hardline Digital Deluxe
  • Battlefield 3
  • SimCity
  • FIFA 15
  • Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare
  • Need for Speed Rivals: Complete Edition
  • Dead Space 3
  • Dragon Age II
  • Dead Space 2
  • Dragon Age Origins – Ultimate Edition
  • Dead Space
  • The Sims 3 Starter Pack
  • This War of Mine

And list of titles available for prerelease trial:

  • Unravel (available Feb 4)

Origin Access will be a great service for game reviewers for sure but store itself is far from perfect yet. EA is pumping all its force into the place but still most of the games are of its own creation and compared to Steam the library leaves much to be desired. Interesting way to go though comparing two services ever since “the big split”, Valve went into Community and full Social experience with Steam, while EA with Origin appears to try and push console mentality into PC gaming. Let’s see if Origin can succeed where OnLive couldn’t.
