We apologize for not getting these categories out fast, we had a few ties that needed to be declared first and we’ve all been busy with GDC and PAX East coming up. As a note in 2016 we might not have the individual awards for various platforms (except for handheld) if the top nominees continue to be cross platform games.
The nominees included Bravely Default, Fantasy Life, Shovel Knight, World Ends with You and Super Smash Bros 3DS. And the winner is…..
Bravely Default. Bravely Default was a return to the classic final fantasy 1-6 type combat that included a mixing of different classes and jobs but on top of that the game had a fantastic story that unfortunate as it was ended up being repeated 4 times before finally ending. Even with that downside to the game it was a fantastic new franchise that came out of no where from squarenix and we look forward to playing Bravely Second when it comes out.
BEST Xbox Game:
The Nominees included Titanfall, South Park Stick of Truth, Dark Souls 2, Dragon Age Inquisition and Shadow of Mordor. And the winner was….
Shadow of Mordor. Shadow of Mordor was a fantastic action adventure game that not only had a great story and gameplay but introduced us to a new system, the nemesis system. This would allow the player to find his nemesis in a sea of orcs only to end up having a final battle with him at the end of the game. It added emotional tie to who you were fighting and wanted to get revenge with. My personal nemesis ended up being an uruk that was a pain to kill as he was immune to counters, sneak attacks, long range and finishers.
BEST Playstation Game:
The nominees included South Park Stick of Truth, Dark Souls 2, Dragon Age Inquisition, Last of Us Remastered and Destiny. The winner is……
Last of Us Remastered. When this was released originally it was a fantastic story driven game that was only made better thanks to the better hardware of the ps4 and the subsequent release of the dlc Left Behind. Overall if you were to play 10 games in the last 5+ years this is absolute must.
BEST PC Game:
The nominees for best PC game included: South Park Stick of Truth, Wolfenstein TNO, Divinity Original Sin, Dragon Age Inquisition, Alien Isolation and Shadow of Mordor. And the winner is…..
Divinity Original Sin. The 3rd game in a series that Laurian Studios had been worked on since 1997 and almost bankrupt the studio but they had a will to push on and develop one of the best RPGs in recent history. The great story was only complimented by the incredible combat mechanics and allowing users to add their own content through the steam workshop has only allowed for more scenarios to surface that just lengthens the game even more.
